Lament of Lady Irene & Lady Nyerotoo Elephants leave
footprints on African soils. I leave you with this Lament. If you think being a
woman is difficult, try being an Acholi woman or an elephant matriarch. Acholi
women are on the verge of extinction.
Wars and associated problems have contributed to the disruption of their
societies. Acholi women like elephant matriarchs are custodians of culture. They
are endemic and should also be listed as Highly Endangered. I belong to that
category. I am not avant-garde. Stories began with ‘Ododona ni yoo’
(This is my story). I answered eyo (yes). There were songs. I went to bed
with the tunes in my head, hummed them until sleep overtook me and in the
mornings, I woke up humming the songs.
Lady Nyerotoo
Lady Irene Invest in elephant mambo. Thank you Tunashukuru, Wapwoyo
